Zach Galifianakis ‘Momentarily’ Murders Matthew McConaughey in ‘Between Two Ferns: The Movie’ Trailer (Video)

Comedy film based on Funny or Die web series debuts on Netflix on Sept. 20

Of all of Zach Galifianakis’ bad and awkward interviews that he’s done as part of his viral web series “Between Two Ferns,” none of them has ended as badly as his new interview with Matthew McConaughey.

The new movie version of “Between Two Ferns” begins with a pipe bursting during their interview, flooding the room with so much water that it drowns McConaughey.

Don’t worry, Galifianakis only killed McConaughey “momentarily,” as his boss, played by Will Ferrell, explains in the film’s first trailer.

Netflix is releasing the feature-length take on Galifianakis’s Funny or Die series, which not only features more interviews with an assortment of celebrities who would rather not be there but also tells the story of Galifianakis who aims to film 10 more episodes of “Between Two Ferns” in a quest to get his own network show.

“Ten of your dumb internet talk show and you give me a network talk show,” Galifianakis says. “I’m a white man and I’m straight and I deserve it.”

Galifianakis then takes the show on the road, failing to pronounce Benedict Cumberbatch’s name properly, raising Brie Larson’s anxiety and flirting with Chrissy Teigen along the way. Those are just a couple of big names of an incredible cast that also includes Peter Dinklage, David Letterman, Jason Schwartzman, Tiffany Haddish, Paul Rust, Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones, John Legend, Adam Scott, Awkwafina, Hailee Steinfeld, John Cho and Keanu Reeves.

Scott Aukerman directed the film and co-wrote it with Galifianakis.

Netflix is releasing “Between Two Ferns: The Movie” “not in theaters” beginning on Sept. 20. Watch the trailer above.
