In an effort to expand its role in the content business, YouTube is soft launching its flagship production facility, the YouTube Space Los Angeles, on November 28, a representative for the company told TheWrap.
The new 41,000-square-feet studio complex, which is located inside a former helicopter hanger in Playa Vista, is described as a place for YouTube’s partners — people who create content linked to advertising on the site — to bring stories to life.

The space includes two production stages, a recording studio, three green-screen rooms, a motion-capture studio, a screening room, collaboration spaces, a backlot-equipment room with cameras, lights, mics and grip equipment available for checkout.
Expanding on the success created through the site’s streaming of online video posts, the space is launching with the goal of helping YouTube’s partners create better content, and build a larger audience, the company said on Monday in a blog post.
The facility will be fully operational starting in January, when the company’s partners are expected to start using the facility regularly.
“At YouTube we're only as successful as you, our creators. From our NextUp series and the launch of a new home page focused on your channels, to funding a small group of original channels, our goal remains the same: to help all our creators build big audiences on YouTube,” the blog post said.
YouTube already operates a similar facility in London, which opened in July. Both facilities are free of charge to the site’s partners. A smaller studio complex is also in operation in New York.
Like London, the Los Angeles space will also provide training programs, workshops, master classes, and opportunities for users to get hands-on experience from industry leaders.
The company has not yet announced plans for other facilities.
