Vin Diesel kicks ass, gets the girl and looks good while doing it in the first full trailer for next year’s “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage,” which Paramount debuted online Tuesday.
After sitting out 2005’s “xXx: State of the Union,” Diesel returns to the franchise to reprise his role as Cage, an extreme sports junkie/secret agent who uses one motorcycle as a hand-to-hand weapon and drives another through giant waves surfboard-style.
This time around, he’s be joined by Samuel L. Jackson (who appeared in the first two films as NSA agent August Gibbons), Chinese superstar Kris Wu, Toni Collette, Nina Dobrev, Ariadna Gutierrez, Ruby Rose, Hermione Corfield, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone and martial-arts sensations Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa and Conor McGregor.
D.J. Caruso is directing the action sequel from a script by Chad St. John and F. Scott Frazier. Joe Roth is producing with Diesel, among others, while Revolution executives Vince Totino and Scott Hemming will serve as executive producers.
The original “xXx” was released in 2002 and helped establish Diesel as a major box office draw. The film grossed over $277 million worldwide against a reported $70 million budget.
The 2005 sequel “State of the Union,” which starred Ice Cube, settled for a disappointing $71 million worldwide.
Paramount is releasing “xXx” on Jan. 20, 2017. Watch the trailer above.
