WWE alum Alberto Del Rio did battle outside the ring this week, and he has the wounds to prove it.
Del Rio, who split with the wrestling organization last month, shared grisly photos of injuries he sustained following a run-in with a knife-wielding assailant.
The photos, posted on the wrestler’s Instagram account, revealed a nasty gash to Del Rio’s head, as well as numerous cuts to his arm.
A statement on Del Rio’s (real name: Jose Rodriguez) Instagram account said that the wrestler was attacked outside of a restaurant shortly after eating a meal.

“Mr. Rodriguez suffered multiple lacerations on his arm and other parts of his body defending against the criminal as police were called by witnesses,” the statement read. “Mr. Rodriguez received medical attention and went back to the police department.”
The incident caused Del Rio to miss an appearance this weekend at the Lucha Libre AAA WorldWide wrestling league’s Heroes Immortales X event, an absence that Del Rio “greatly regrets,” according to the statement.
The wrestler “promises to everyone he will make this up as soon as possible” and will not miss any further appearances, the statement added.
“Despite the graphic lacerations, Mr. Rodriguez will not miss any of his shows for the remainder of the year and is ready to compete this weekend in the UK,” the statement concluded.
Del Rio parted ways with WWE on September 9 in what the organization called a “mutual” agreement.
The parting of ways came mere weeks after Del Rio received a 30-day suspension for violating the WWE’s talent wellness policy.
The split also came less than a year after he re-joined the organization, following his firing in 2014 for “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.”
