‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ Secures Overseas Distribution in Multiple Territories Through Universal

Universal has picked up a slew of international territories for Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street," starring Leonardo DiCaprio

Universal Pictures International (UPI) has acquired distribution rights in the U.K., Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Scandinavia to Red Granite Pictures’ “The Wolf of Wall Street,” directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Universal announced on Thursday.

Red Granite’s foreign sales arm, Red Granite International, led by Danny Dimbort and Christian Mercuri, is handling international sales on the film and negotiated the deal on behalf of the producers.

Red Granite, the Los Angeles-based film production, finance and international sales company led by principals Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland, owns the rights to Jordan Belfort’s best-selling memoir “The Wolf of Wall Street,” on which the film is based and is fully financing the film and producing alongside DiCaprio (Appian Way), Scorsese (Sikelia Productions) and EMJAG Productions.

Currently shooting in New York, “The Wolf of Wall Street” features an A-list ensemble cast that includes DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Rob Reiner, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Jon Favreau, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Cristin Milioti, P.J. Byrne and Ethan Suplee, among others.  Terence Winter adapted the screenplay, which chronicles Jordan Belfort’s dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying, tumultuous personal life.

Paramount Pictures is releasing “The Wolf of Wall Street” domestically.
