Nicolas Cage will play a man investigating his wife's murder and the corrupt police who failed to find her killers

William Friedkin and Nicholas Cage are uniting for Emmett/Furla Films’ “I Am Wrath,” a spokeswoman for the company told TheWrap.

Cage was already attached to star as Stanley, a man whose wife is murdered and then discovers police corruption after the case goes cold. In hunting the perpetrators, he also begins to realize the extent of corruption within the police force.

Now Friedkin, no stranger to cop thrillers (see: “The French Connection”), will direct from Paul Sloan’s script. His last film, “Killer Joe,” also touched on the subject of dirty cops, with Matthew McConaughey playing a cop who moonlights as a hit man.

Production on “I Am Wrath,” which Lionsgate is releasing, begins in February. Emmett/Furla, Cheetah Vision Films, Grindstone and Vallelonga Productions are all producing.

Deadline first reported the news of Friedkin’s involvement.
