The Wrap has partnered with Canvs, a language analytics company that measures emotions around content, for a weekly look at some of the characters and personalities that have TV viewers the most worked up. The data below covers Jan. 18-24 and is drawn from the most emotionally reacted-to television shows, including broadcast, cable, streaming and PPV.

The new president, an R&B artist and a Knicks forward had viewers talking passionately on social media over the past week.

Of the 1.1 million Emotional Reactions (ERs) surrounding the television and streaming coverage of the presidential inauguration last Friday, 42.3 percent explicitly mentioned Donald Trump. It’s no surprise that emotions were mixed. Some viewers expressed excitement and love for President Trump while others shared feelings of contempt and even fear at what his presidency will mean to the country.

Of the 106,984 ERs surrounding Tuesday’s first installment of “The New Edition Story” on BET, 5 percent mentioned Bobby Brown. This three-part miniseries celebrates the R&B/pop group New Edition, following members from their origins as kids in Boston to their joint — as well as individual — success over the years. Bobby Brown, of course, was a big part of the group, and during the premiere viewers in particular commented about him as a child (portrayed by Tyler Williams).

Of the 24,924 ERs surrounding the Washington Wizards and New York Knicks game on TNT last week, 24.4 percent mentioned Carmelo “Melo” Anthony, forward for the Knicks. Although the Knicks ultimately lost, many viewers were celebrating Melo’s game — he finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds — though others were throwing shade.
