‘What’s the Deal?’ With Thomas Mann and Olivia Cooke in ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl?’ (Video)

Fox Searchlight’s coming-of-age hit is resonating without a major movie star or book franchise behind it

As Alfonso Gomez-Rejon‘s Sundance title hits  theaters this weekend, buzz won’t let up for the coming-of-age drama staring Thomas Mann and Olivia Cooke.

Mann (“Project X”) serves as unreliable narrator Greg in the wrenching drama, as he befriends a classmate stricken with leukemia (Cooke), learning as much about himself as he does the dying girl of the title.

Without the benefit of a major movie star or a bestselling novel as source material, as the similarly themed “Fault In Our Stars” had, “Me and Earl” holds up with beautiful performances, score and direction from Gomez-Rejon.
