‘What’s the Deal?’: Jeff Sneider on Sequel ‘Insurgent’ From ‘R.I.P.D.’ Director Robert Schwentke

After back-to-back hit YA franchises in “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games,” Lionsgate/Summit is hoping lightning will strike a third time for “Divergent,” which is based on the bestselling series of books by Veronica Roth.

On Tuesday night, the studio hired Robert Schwentke (“R.I.P.D.”) to direct the sequel “Insurgent,” which hits theaters in March 2015. While three of Schwentke’s four movies have made money, including Summit’s own action franchises starter “RED,” his last movie “R.I.P.D.” lost $100 million for Universal and earned a paltry 13% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
