What Half a Billion in Campaign Spending Could Have Bought

NBC NIghtly News calculates all of the food, immunizations and mosquito nets that could have been bought instead of ads

Wish there were fewer political ads? You might feel that way even more in a minute.

NBC Nightly News' Brian Williams reported Thursday that spending on the presidential campaign has already crossed the half-billion dollar mark, breaking previous records for a campaign with more than two months left to go. Just for kicks, he also broke down what else half a billion dollars will buy, including:

-Food for 9.2 million malnourished children for 50 days

-Immunizations for 29 million children for life

-Clean water for 500 million children for 40 days

-166 million anti-malarial mosquito bed nets

Then again, have you seen those ads? Some of them are pretty great.
