‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’ Debuts Star-Studded Staff Orientation Film (Video)

Michael Showalter and David Wain’s Netflix prequel starts streaming on July 31

Summertime is sleep-away camp time, but a new mock orientation video makes it clear parents probably wouldn’t want to send their kiddies to “Wet Hot American Summer” getaway Camp Firewood.

Netflix unveiled the star-studded camp counselor film advertising its upcoming prequel to the 2001 cult classic on Thursday, and the event series looks like more fun than rope-swinging into a lake. In the clip, viewers will get to know a little about Susie (Amy Poehler), Gail (Molly Shannon) and Neil (Joe Lo Truglio), among others.

All we get from Vic (Ken Marino) is an off-camera “Suck my dick!” response to Neil’s coaxing.

From co-creators Michael Showalter and David Wain, “First Day Of Camp” serves as a before snapshot to feature-length comedy “Wet Hot American Summer.” While the movie took place on the group’s final day at Camp Firewood, the eight-episode Netflix series takes place on the first day of camp, back in 1981.

Also returning are Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, David Hyde Pierce, AD Miles, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan and Showalter. The half-hour comedy series also features some new famous faces.

Ditch the camp fire for a TV when “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” premieres July 31 on Netflix.
