Podcast network Westwood One, home of the “Talk Is Jericho” podcast with former WWE wrestler Chris Jericho and now “The Dennis Miller Option” with comedian Dennis Miller, has tapped the Wall Street Journal’s John Wordock as its new executive editor, podcasting.
“As the fastest organically growing podcast network in the U.S. in 2018, Westwood One is thrilled to welcome John to the leadership team,” Westwood One president Suzanne Grimes said in a statement. “With almost 15 years of experience in podcast development, production and distribution, coupled with his journalistic roots, John will help us expand our content portfolio with a commitment to quality and scale.”
Wordock, who before the Wall Street Journal helmed the radio arm of MarketWatch.com from 2007 to 2013, will be responsible for content strategy and development at the network starting Feb. 15.
The former Wall Street Journal executive editor, podcasts launched the future tech podcast “The Future of Everything” for the WSJ podcast network in 2018. The podcast was nominated at the 2019 iHeart Radio Awards for best science & tech podcast.
“I’m honored to be joining a company with such a robust history and strong commitment to audio. I look forward to working closely with Suzanne Grimes and the team as we continue to fuel the meteoric growth of Westwood One Podcast Network,” Wordock said in a statement.
The addition of Wordock is the second of Westwood One’s recent moves to grow their stake in the podcast industry. Earlier this month, Westwood One announced comedian and radio personality Dennis Miller would be coming from PodcastOne with his “The Dennis Miller Option” podcast. “The Dennis Miller Option” debuted on PodcastOne last April and immediately entered the Top 10 on the Apple Podcasts comedy charts, as TheWrap previously reported.
