The Weinstein Company has moved up the release of Derek Cianfrance's searing marital drama "Blue Valentine" by two days to Wednesday, Dec. 29, the studio has confirmed to TheWrap.
The film stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, both of whom earned Golden Globe nominations for their powerful performances.
The move was fueled by strong reviews and impressive word-of-mouth, and gives "Blue Valentine" a head-start going into the holiday weekend. The film will now open in Los Angeles and New York on the 29th before expanding further in the following weeks.
In other release date news, Roadside Attractions has pushed back the nationwide bow for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "Biutiful" to Jan. 28, the company has confirmed to TheWrap.
Javier Bardem delivers a devastating performance in the film as a dying man who tries to get his life in order before succumbing to terminal cancer.
"Biutiful" will still receive an Oscar-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 29, as Roadside always intended.
Oscar nominations are announced on Jan. 25, so the company will be hoping Bardem sneaks into the Best Actor field in order to reap the financial benefits that his nomination would bring.
