The Weinstein Company has acquired all distribution rights to "The King’s Speech," starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush and to be directed by Tom Hooper.
Film is about the man who would become King George VI (Firth), the father of the current Queen, Elizabeth II.
Plagued by a nervous stammer and considered unfit to rule, he engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist (Geoffrey Rush).
The Weinstein Company acquired the rights from See-Saw Films and Bedlam Prods. Principal photography will start later this year, and TWC plans for a 2010 release.
