Wayne Kramer ("The Cooler") will direct Myriad Pictures' "Pretty Boy Floyd," a crime thriller based on the life of famous outlaw Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd, the company announced on Friday.
Kevin Bernhardt ("Peaceful Warrior") wrote the screenplay about the 1920s bank robber who considered himself something of a Robin Hood despite being wanted by the FBI for the killing some Kansas City police officers.
Kramer plans to bring "21st-century style and energy" to the movie, which he describes as "a great love story about an outlaw on the run who can't stay away from the woman he loves, no matter how destructive the relationship is for both of them, which ultimately leads to his demise."
There's also a bounty hunter character who dedicated much of his life to his relentless pursuit of Floyd.
Um … didn't I just see this movie last year when it was called "Public Enemies," which also happened to feature Channing Tatum as the good-looking gangster? What is the point of basically retelling this story all over again? Especially in lieu of the fact that "Public Enemies" didn't exactly light up the box office despite boasting A-list stars Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard and director Michael Mann.
Myriad's Kirk D'Amico will produce "Pretty Boy Floyd." He's currently exec producing Simon Wincer's "The Cup" and the Wall Street thriller "Margin Call," which stars Kevin Spacey and Demi Moore.
Kramer recently directed Harrison Ford in the immigration drama "Crossing Over." He previously directed the completely crazy Paul Walker thriller "Running Scared."
Myriad will soon be putting Bernhardt's thriller script "The Genesis Code" into production with Hayden Christensen starring.
