Damon Lindelof’s “Watchmen” series has landed a pilot order at HBO.
The network has also committed to additional backup scripts for the series based on the seminal DC Comics graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
The story is set in 1985 as the U.S. is nearing World War III with the Soviet Union, at a time when superheroes and costumed vigilantes are commonplace.
Lindelof teased the start of pre-production on Tuesday by posting an Instagram pic of a statuette that is central to the plot.
This project is not related to director Zack Snyder’s 2009 film version of “Watchmen.”
