Director Jay Bulger is taking a deep dive into the world of boxing in Netflix’s latest documentary.
The film follows several young boxers who are trying to make it in the industry and restore the sport to its glory days of Mohammed Ali and other famous boxers.
Bulger happens to have been an amateur boxer himself.
“Many years after hanging up the gloves, I set out to capture the state of boxing in America, following three boxers, in three different chapters of a boxing career. When combined, I hope they provide a complete picture of the sport today,” he said in a press release. Bulger also directed the documentaries “Beware of Mr. Baker” and “We Are.”
“Boxing is all about perception,” the voice over in the trailer says. “Counterpunch” promises to give viewers a peek inside of that world.
The documentary premieres at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 15.
