Watch Michael Avenatti, Dame Dash Discuss R Kelly in Lifetime’s ‘Surviving R Kelly’ Follow-Up (Video)

Three-part doc, now called “The Reckoning,” to air in January

Lifetime has released the trailer and premiere date for its three-part “Surviving R. Kelly” follow up, now titled “The Reckoning.”

The new docuseries, which will air over three nights between Jan. 2-4, 2020, will feature interviews from a variety of perspectives including with new survivors, supporters, psychologists and cultural and legal experts, and will provide more insights into the ever-growing saga of the R&B singer, who is currently facing federal and state charges.

New interviewees include Michael Avenatti, Dame Dash, Michael Knowles, Gloria Allred and longtime music reporter Jim DeRogatis, who was one of the first reporters to look into Kelly’s behavior, more than 20 years ago.

In February, Kelly was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, based on accusations from four different accusers. In May, 11 additional felony counts were filed against him, including four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of criminal sexual assault by force, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim between the ages of 13 and 16.

The R&B singer was arrested in Chicago in July on 18 federal sex assault charges in two cities, a 13-count indictment in Chicago and a five-count indictment in New York.

The initial “Surviving R. Kelly” series that aired last January is credited for helping make the accusations against him more public and eventually leading to his arrest.

Produced by Kreativ Inc, “Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning” is executive produced by Joel Karsberg and Jesse Daniels of Kreativ Inc.; dream hampton; Tamra Simmons; Maria Pepin; and Brie Miranda Bryant who executive produces for Lifetime. Sudi Khosropur is co-executive producer.
