Jon Snow fans, you won’t have to wait until “Game of Thrones” returns for your Kit Harington fix, and we’ve got a new trailer to get you hyped.
Harington is starring in HBO’s upcoming three-part miniseries “Gunpowder,” which is all about the plot to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in the early 1600s.
Harington is Robert Catesby, the mastermind behind the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 London. Catesby is a Catholic in Protestant England, which if you remember your history lessons, means he’s treated anything but well by the royals. “The Fifth of November. Remember, remember! The fifth of November, The Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason,” goes the English Folk verse.
Fellow “Game of Thrones” alum Mark Gatiss plays King James’ spymaster, Robert Cecil, who tortures Catholics in the English countryside.
The new trailer begins with Catesby’s sister being “crushed like a seed” and his brother “butchered” in 1603. He explains that to exact revenge, his goal is to “kill the king of England.” We gets some glimpses of Liv Tyler as Anne Vaux, Tom Cullen as Guy Fawkes and Derek Riddell as King James himself.
“Gunpowder” premieres on HBO on December 18 at 10 p.m.
