Today marks the fifteenth anniversary of R&B singer Aaliyah’s death, and while many people are paying tribute to the late artist with touching words about how iconic she was and how she’s still missed, Beyoncé simply posted one video with no caption.
During the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, the “Lemonade” artist interviewed Aaliyah on the red carpet. At the time, she was still a part of Destiny’s Child. The pair can be seen having a good time — smiling, laughing and most importantly raving over D’Angelo.
Queen Bey asked the R&B princess what she was most looking forward to seeing at the awards show, and Aaliyah was clearly excited to see D’Angelo perform. Beyoncé concurred.
“Girl, I’m with you because you know he fine,” said Bey.
“He’s fine, he’s hot, he’s sexy,” agreed the “One in a Million” artist.
Aaliyah had a major impact in music and fashion alike, especially in the R&B and hip-hop genres. She was iconic in pushing rhythm and blues to the forefront and she had a strong sense of self that radiated through her style.
The R&B princess died in 2001 in a plane crash. She was returning home from the Bahamas where she was filming the music video for “Rock the Boat, when her plane crashed shortly after taking off.
