‘Warriors of Liberty City’: 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell Coaches Up Next Wave of NFL Talent (Video)

TCA 2018: Starz unveils trailer for LeBron James-produced Miami docuseries about youth football

Despite its small stature and dangerous nature, Miami’s Liberty City continues to churn out NFL talent — that’s at least partially due to the football program pioneered by 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell. It’s also the subject of the upcoming Starz docuseries, “Warriors of Liberty City,” which hails from executive producers LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

The series follows a season with the Liberty City Warriors, a youth football program founded by the rapper affectionately referred to as “Uncle Luke.” Beyond football, the Liberty City Warriors Optimist Club is a youth organization that sponsors sports teams, dance, cheerleading, tutoring and academic support.

Starz executives unveiled the trailer for “Warriors of Liberty City” Saturday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour. Watch it above.

Also during its time at TCA, Starz announced that Roberta Colindrez will be joining the cast of “Vida” as a new series regular for the 10-episode Season 2. Series creator and executive producer Tanya Saracho will make her directorial debut on the upcoming run for that show.

“Vida” centers around two Mexican-American sisters from the Eastside of Los Angeles who couldn’t be more different or distanced from each other. Circumstances force them to return to their old neighborhood, where they are confronted by the past and shocking truth about their mother’s identity.

“Warriors of Liberty City” premieres Sunday, September 16 at 8/7c on Starz.
