Warner Bros. to Convert Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ Into 3D

"Pacfic Rim" stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi

Guillermo Del Toro has said he did not want to make “Pacific Rim” in 3D, but Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment have decided to convert the film in post-production in pursuit of box-office gold.

This is not uncommon; many studios have done it with major films, as Disney/Marvel did with "Captain America" and "The Avengers." And that's to say nothing of older films coming back in 3D.

However, Del Toro told reporters at Comic-Con that he felt 3D would diminish the sweeping visual aesthetic he wanted for the film.

There is no denying that greater profits await.
