(Spoilers ahead for the Dec. 3 episode of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”)

Next week is the 90-minute midseason finale of “The Walking Dead,” and the show messed with fans at home with a cliffhanger that left several major plot threads dangling for maximum dramatic impact. Then, to add to everyone’s suffering, the narration over the tease for said finale promises a shocking conclusion that everyone will be talking about. So we don’t know what’s happening, and also probably somebody is gonna die next week.

Before we dive into the reactions, a quick recap of the situation. There were three big storylines in motion as the episode came to a close, with all of them seemingly converging right at the end. First is the situation with the Saviors in Sanctuary. Eugene (Josh McDermitt) has been tasked with figuring out a way to deal with the walkers that surround the compound, and he has come up with some kind of plan that was not detailed this week. Eugene is also in a tenuous situation with Dwight, who Eugene correctly identified as the traitor inside the Saviors and confronted privately. For now, Dwight’s secret is safe.

Next we have Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Tara (Alanna Masterson), who have decided to deviate from The Plan by attacking Sanctuary before the alliance forces gather. They had some success, as they were able to breach Sanctuary’s defenses and let the walkers inside, though the Saviors were able to contain them down on the first floor. What Tara and Daryl did may have accidentally helped with whatever plan Eugene came up with.

Then we have Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the Scavengers, who he seemed to have successfully recruited to the alliance. But when he led them to Sanctuary, all the walkers there were already gone.

What does all this add up to? Who knows! We’ll have to wait until next week to find out. But in the meantime, enjoy everybody freaking out as we wait for the other shoe to drop.
