"Hallelujah" may be the most overworked song of the decade, but it provided a stirring moment at the opening of Monday night's finals on "The Voice": a tribute to the victims of the Newtown, Conn., killings
As the show opened, a lineup of red candles appeared on the screen. The camera then honed in on Blake Shelton singing the first verse of the Leonard Cohen song, surrounded by his compatriots — Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera, along with show host Carson Daly — and the complete roster of this season's contestants.
The coaches all traded lines of the verses, with the other singers coming in on the chorus.
Each of the singers was holding a card with the name and age of a victim of the school massacre.
