Vice Sports is partnering with Mandalay Sports Media to launch a new docu-series telling ground-breaking, under-reported sports stories, the network and media company announced Thursday.
Produced by Mandalay Sports’ Mike Tollin, Mason Gordon and Catlin Callaway, the digital series captures the action of high-stakes street football leagues in New York City, follows an underground fighting club’s attempts to go legit, and chronicles the controversy surrounding Zack Hample, an MLB collector best known for catching the Alex Rodriguez’s 3000th hit earlier this year.
Also included in each episode is a “Ride Along” segment featuring players such as Baltimore Ravens’ Steve Smith (pictured above), D’Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl Anthony-Towns from inside their cars as they head to their biggest games of the year.
Tollin’s production credits include “Varsity Blues,” “Arli$$” and “Smallville,” along with sports documentary, “Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream.” He won Peabody Award and has been nominated for both an Emmy and an Academy Award.
On Wednesday, James Rosenstock was named executive vice president of international and corporate development at Vice Media. He will help steer Vice’s global expansion as it continues to enter strategic multi-platform partnerships to distribute its award-winning content across international markets.
The new series is available on VICESPorts.com with four digital docs launching each month.
