“V/H/S Viral” brings the popular found-footage horror franchise into the modern era, while staying true to the anthology format established in the original films. The third installment features shorts written and directed by Justin Benson, Gregg Bishop, Todd Lincoln, Marcel Sarmiento and Nacho Vigalondo.
Previous films have featured a framing story featuring one or more characters watching VHS tapes. It was on these tapes that the short horror films played out, while a different frightening fate awaited the watcher.

The latest installment takes the concept online where there are even more videos to be found, and more horror to be unleashed on the film’s unsuspecting victims.
The red band trailer released promises the same kind of gory sex and violence that defined the original films. Like most anthology series, “V/H/S” and “V/H/S 2” were hit or miss, but the beauty of the format is that you can just wait out a disappointing installment and pin your hopes on the next one.

Based on the trailer, this one’s definitely got some memorable moments, like a woman getting pulled into the back of a chair, another getting bashed about in a shower, men with glowing eyes and mouths, some kind of desert stalker and what looks like a first-person shooter gone real and very dangerous.
“V/H/S Viral” is produced by Bloody Disgusting, The Collective and Haxan Films. Magnet Releasing will make the film available via Video on Demand and iTunes on Friday, Oct. 23, nearly a full month before its theatrical release on Friday, Nov. 21.
