‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Releases Director’s Cut of Kickstarter Launch Video

In the campaign’s final week, it hopes to break a new record

As a reward to its current backers and to spread awareness of its new goal in its final stretch, the “Veronica Mars” movie Kickstarter project released the director’s cut of its launch video on Sunday.

With 50 seconds more footage in the cut, fans get some extra time with the cult UPN/CW series’ stars Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Ryan Hansen and Enrico Colantoni.

The campaign hopes to hit a new Kickstarter record of 87,143 total backers before the end of the campaign next week. Currently, the campaign has 72,623 backers and has raised $4,779,869.

In addition to the video, series creator Rob Thomas also announced new artwork, which supporters can use on their social media accounts to help raise awareness of the campaign in an effort to reach its final record-breaking goal. The art is available on the project’s official Facebook page.

Last month, the campaign launched with the goal of raising $2 million, the amount that Warner Bros. said would enable it to greenlight the production and distribute the film.

The goal was reached within 10 hours of the campaign’s launch and broke the crowdsourcing site’s record for the time it took to raise $1 million and then $2 million. It is also the site’s highest minimum goal achieved and its most successful film project campaign.

Last week, Thomas announced that Dohring had officially joined the movie’s cast and that the first draft screenplay for the film was completed.

The movie is slated to go into production this summer for an early-2014 release.
