Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue Features Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain (Video)

This year's cover of Hollywood "It girls" features two returnees and, following the controversy of 2010, two women of color

Vanity Fair Hollywood issue features Jennifer Lawrence, Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Mia Wasikowska, Shalene Woodley, Felicity Jones, Paul Patton, Lily Collins, Adepero Oduye and Brit Marling

Rooney Mara and Jessica Chastain added "Oscar nominee" to their resumes in January. Now they can add Vanity Fair "It girl."

Mara, star of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," and Chastain of "The Help" share the fold-out cover of the 2012 VF Hollywood Issue with Jennifer Lawrence ("The Hunger Games"), Mia Wasikowska ("Albert Nobbs"), Elizabeth Olsen ("Martha Marcy May Marlene"), Adepero Oduye ("Pariah"), Shalene Woodley ("The Descendants"), Paula Patton ("Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol"), Felicity Jones ("Like Crazy"), Lily Collins ("Mirror Mirror") and Brit Marling ("Another Earth").

It was the second time around for Lawrence and Wasikowska, both of whom appeared on previous covers.

The magazine's mammoth Hollywood issue is known for focusing on the young, up-and-coming stars of the big screen.

It's also caused some controversy.

The 2010 issue — featuring Carey Mulligan, Kristen Stewart, Abbie Cornish, Wasikowska, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood and Anna Kendrick — drew criticism for its lack of racial diversity in a year when Gabrourey Sidibe was Oscar-nominated for her role in "Precious."

The following year, the cover featured one person of color — Anthony Mackie of "The Hurt Locker" — alongside Lawrence, Olivia Wilde, Ryan Reynolds, Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Lawrence, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Noomi Rapace and veteran actor Robert Duvall.

This year's cover, shot by Mario Testino, features two women of color: Oduye and Patton.

It takes a lot of prep to get ready for the big shoot, as you can see in this behind-the-scenes video.
