ABC has brought Vanessa Williams back into the fold. The former “Ugly Betty” and “Desperate Housewives” star has been cast in the network’s new dramedy pilot “False Profits,” a person who is close to production told TheWrap.
Written and executive produced by “Code Black” alum Kayla Alpert, the dramedy stars “Scandal”s Bellamy Young and follows a team of down-and-out women in suburban Arizona as they fight their way to the top of the cutthroat world of a multi-level marketing cosmetics business.
Williams has been added to the cast as Suzanne, the “chief” of a successful “tribe” of saleswomen who wants to add Young’s Laura to her cluster of money-making followers. Suzanne tempts Laura with the prospect of a fabulous income, but becomes mercilessly competitive when the latter creates her own tribe of three.
Jason Reed and Sabrina Wind also serve as executive producers on the ABC Studios pilot under the Jason T. Reed Productions banner.
