Uzo Aduba, Natasha Lyonne Talk Disturbing ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Workplace (Video)

The Emmy-nominated actresses say the abandoned children’s psychiatric ward where they film many scenes looks like someone just picked up the children and left

Emmy nominees Natasha Lyonne and Uzo Aduba showed up together on “Chelsea Lately,” but the “Orange Is the New Black” stars were quick to point out that they’re no longer getting along. Apparently, the nominations for Outstanding Guest Actress, which they share with fellow castmate Laverne Cox, have torn the women apart.

Maybe once the ceremony is over, everyone will start getting along again.

When asked about the real prison that they worked in while filming the Netflix series, Aduba clarified that it’s not a prison, but rather an abandoned children’s psychiatric ward. Somehow, this sounds even worse.

“The abandoned ward where we shoot … it literally looks like they just picked up the children one day and walked away,” Aduba said.

“It’s very disturbing,” Lyonne echoed. “It’s like asbestos and half un-stuffed teddy bears.” Aduba described headless CPR dummies as another example of things that made this seem like a terrible place for children to be staying.

“Orange Is the New Black” received 12 Emmy nominations, including Taylor Schilling for Lead Actress, and Kate Mulgrew for Supporting Actress,  as well as directing, writing, casting and one for Outstanding Comedy Series. “The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards” will broadcast on NBC at 8/7c.
