After confirming its deal with DreamWorks, Universal Pictures has announced it will release the company’s adaptation of “The Girl on the Train” on Oct. 7, 2016.

DreamWorks previously had a deal with Disney to release all of its live-action movies. Disney recently released Steven Spielberg‘s “Bridge of Spies” and it’s slated to release “The BFG” and “Ghost in the Shell.”

Universal also announced that its “Monster High,” originally scheduled for release on Oct. 7, 2016, will be redated at a later time.

Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Theroux, Haley Bennett, Edgar Ramirez and Allison Janney star in “The Girl on the Train.” Tate Taylor (“The Help”) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Erin Cressida Wilson, based on the bestselling novel by Paula Hawkins. Marc Platt (“Into the Woods”) is producing the film, while executive producers are Jared LeBoff and Celia Costas.

In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.

As for “Monster High,” surviving high school is tough enough when your parents aren’t the most legendary monsters in history. Finding your real identity while figuring out what to do with your secret one is just part of what the teenagers who attend super-secret academy Monster High go through every day–and night.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“Gossip Girl”) wrote the screenplay based on the hugely successful Mattel franchise. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“Hairspray”) will produce under their Storyline Entertainment banner, and Schwartz and Savage will produce for Fake Empire.
