The Film Arcade and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have dried the ink on a multi-year home entertainment distribution deal, both companies announced on Monday.
Universal will handle all of marketing, sales and distribution services for Blu-ray, DVD, electronic sell-through, video-on-demand and television of The Film Arcade films in the U.S. and Canada.
The new partners will launch the deal with The Film Arcade’s indie darling “Don’t Think Twice,” a Mike Birbiglia dramedy that won both raves from critics and became one of the biggest specialty box office hits of the year, grossing $4.4 million domestically.
The film, which revolves around the lives of a comedy troupe, stars Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs and Birbiglia, and was just nominated for Best Comedy by the Critics’ Choice Awards.
“Don’t Think Twice” just had a successful electronic sell-through debut, according to The Film Arcade, and becomes available on VOD and DVD/Blu-ray tomorrow Tuesday, December 6.
Universal also acquired all international distribution rights for the title with plans to release it abroad next year.
“We are excited to work with the talented team at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment,” said The Film Arcade’s Andy Bohn. “We’ve enjoyed collaborating with them on Don’t Think Twice and they will be an invaluable partner on our future films.”
“The Film Arcade is truly a top-quality operation,” said Eddie Cunningham, President, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. “Combining Universal’s exceptional track record in content distribution across both brick and mortar and digital retail platforms with The Film Arcade’s compelling roster of specialty fare sets the table for a long and prosperous distribution partnership.”
