Universal to Distribute Gold Circle Musical ‘Pitch Perfect’

Jason Moore will direct from a screenplay by Kay Cannon, which she based on the nonfiction book by Mickey Rapkin

Universal has signed on to distribute "Pitch Perfect," a musical comedy developed by Gold Circle Films.

Jason Moore — who's directed TV series including "Brothers & Sisters," Everwood," "One Tree Hill" and "Dawson's Creek" — will direct the film, which is set in the world ofa college a cappella.

Kay Cannon will handle the screenplay, which is based on Mickey Rapkin's eponymous nonfiction book.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES TO DISTRIBUTE GOLD CIRCLE FILMS’ MUSICAL COMEDY PITCH PERFECT WORLDWIDE  

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, June 30, 2011 – Universal Pictures and Gold Circle Films announced today that Universal has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Pitch Perfect, a musical comedy set in the world of college a cappella.  Jason Moore will direct from a screenplay by Kay Cannon, which she based on the nonfiction book by Mickey Rapkin. Gold Circle Films will finance the project, as well as produce it along with Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman through their Brownstone Productions shingle.

Moore has previously directed several episodes of acclaimed television series including Brothers & SistersEverwoodOne Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek and has an impressive Broadway resume.  He directed the stage production of Shrek The Musical and received Outer Critics and Drama Desk nominations for Best Director.  Moore also directed the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Avenue Q, which earned him a Best Director Tony Award nomination.  Cannon has written several episodes of the Emmy Award-winning NBC series 30 Rock.
