Universal has won a bidding war for “The Disciple Program,” paying mid six-figures for the Tyler Marceca's spec script with Mark Wahlberg attached to star and produce.
Morten Tyldum, whose last film was “Headhunters,” will direct and Stephen Levinson will produce with Wahlberg.
The thriller follows a man investigating his wife’s death, which leads him to a far stranger and more complicated web of stories.
Marceca’s script made its way around town earlier this year, enticing executives and producers alike. Courted by numerous parties, the scribe ended up signing with WME, which put a package together around clients Wahlberg, Levinson and Marceca.
Wahlberg’s last film, “Contraband,” was a Universal project, as is his next one, “Ted,” which marks Seth MacFarlane’s feature directorial debut.
