Netflix is getting a little more magical this year. Two new specials from the “Unicorn Academy” universe are set to premiere on Netflix in 2025, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

The first of these specials is the hourlong “Legendary Summer,” which will premiere on April 9, a date that’s fittingly also known as National Unicorn Day. It will then be followed by the 44-minute “Winter Solstice” on Nov. 6.

“Legendary Summer” will focus on Layla (Kamaia Fairburn). “Wanting to make a unique discovery like her idol, Professor Faraday, Layla brings a Grimorian flower onto Unicorn Island that causes Glacier to lose her powers and puts all the world’s magic at stake,” a logline for the special reads. Located on Unicorn Island and described as the “boarding school of every kid’s dreams,” “Unicorn Academy” follows Sophia Mendoza  and the rest of her freshman class as they bond with their unicorns to unlock their magical powers and become the protectors of the island and its magic. When you add in homework and balancing friendships, that becomes a tall order.

“Unicorn Academy ” comes from the leading global children’s entertainment company Spin Master Corp. and is adapted from Julie Sykes’ New York Times-bestselling books. The series first premiered on Netflix in November of 2023. By the time Chapter 2 was released eight months later, the series was a hit, claiming the No. 1 spot for kids and families in over 90 countries. “Unicorn Academy” has been named the top show for girls aged six to nine years old, according to Netflix’s September 2024 report. The series has been greenlit with more magic expected to be unleashed in 2026.

The children’s show has also proven to be popular on short-form digital content — a growing necessity when it comes to Gen Alpha. The social channels for “Unicorn Academy” have secured more than 19 million streams across YouTube and TikTok. It’s also a big deal in the toy market with toys available in 30 countries. “Unicorn Academy” was the No. 1 new toy property in France and Germany for 2024, according to the market research company Circana.
