Netflix has picked up “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” for a third season, the streaming network announced Sunday.
The announcement came after the news that Season 2 of the Ellie Kemper-led comedy would premiere in April.
During the show’s panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, executive producer Tina Fey doubled down on her refusal to engage in Internet outrage, some of it directed towards “Kimmy Schmidt.”
“The Internet is not a person, nor is it a governing body,” said Fey, in reference to the show’s third episode, which some took as a harsh critique of the Internet and its knee-jerk reactions. “People are allowed to write and think whatever they want to write, there’s something great about that freedom. But we also have the freedom to not care.”
Fey also confirmed that she will return in a guest starring role, but not as Marcia, the fictional version of Marcia Clark that she played on the show in Season 1.
Season 2 of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” premieres on Netflix on Friday, April 15.
