U2 to Perform on ‘American Idol’ Season Finale

The Irish band will perform just before this season’s winner is revealed

It's a beautiful day — or will be on Wednesday, when legendary Irish band U2 performs during the season finale of "American Idol."

Long-time manager Paul McGuinness leaked the news to a reporter after Sunday's Billboard Music Awards 2011.

"Maybe that's supposed to be a secret," he said to a Billboard interviewer backstage after the show, at which U2 won the award for Top Touring Artist.

The news only makes huge ratings even more probable for the results show, on which the season 10 winner will be announced. The two remaining contestants are 17-year-old Scotty McCreery and 16-year-old Lauren Alana. They will face off Tuesday in the final performance show of the year.

U2 is rehearsing for their appearance Monday night. No word yet on what song the band will perform — but we're obviously guessing that it'll be their 2000 hit "Beautiful Day."
