“True Detective” doesn’t wish it had Rick Springfield — because it’s already got him.
The “Jessie’s Girl” singer has joined the ranks of HBO’s acclaimed anthology series for its second season.
Springfield let slip his involvement in the series via Twitter on Wednesday, writing, “Just finished my 1st day of shooting for season 2 of HBO’s True Detective. What a great script. Working w/
The eight-episode season, which has already begun production in California, centers on three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. McAdams will play Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves. Farrell, meanwhile, Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.
Vince Vaughn, Kelly Reilly and Taylor Kitsch will also star in the series’ second run, which featured Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its maiden season.
Details on Springfield’s character were not immediately available.
Springfield, of course, is no stranger to the small screen. In addition to his singing career, he starred as Noah Drake on “General Hospital” and played himself on Showtime’s “Californication,” among other TV gigs.
