“True Blood” actor Joe Manganiello and his brother Nick Manganiello sat down with TheWrap’s guest correspondent Jake Whetter to talk about their upcoming documentary, “La Bare,” which examines the lives of male dancers at a popular male strip club in Dallas.
Joe got the idea for the film while doing research for his role as a male stripper in “Magic Mike.” A friend of his was a male stripper at La Bare in the ’90s and revealed to Joe a bunch of stories, including a few about legendary performer Randy (“Master Blaster”) Ricks, whose story is the backbone of “La Bare.”

“We get to tell the history of male entertainment, which started in the late ’70s at La Bare, through Randy’s journey,” Joe said, adding that the documentary is full of other crazy characters including Ricks’ mom, Mary Lou, who answers the phone every day for their strippergram company at 78-years old.
“La Bare,” produced by Nick and directed by Joe, hits theaters June 27.
