The idea of starter wives and trophy wives is a Hollywood institution. But what happens when everyone — wives, husband, and kids — are forced to interact on a daily basis?
Comedian Sarah Haskins lived it and based ABC’s new comedy, “Trophy Wife,” loosely on her own life experiences
“I think a lot of it is drawn off [Haskins’] personal life, but in real life she gets along beautifully with her husband’s ex-wives,” Michaela Watkins told TheWrap. “I don’t think anybody’s worried that we’re portraying them in any way.”

“Trophy Wife” follows 20-something Kate (Malin Akerman) after her wedding to older man Pete (Bradley Whitford). Kate finds herself with an instant family in Pete’s three children and his two ex-wives (Michaela Watkins, Marcia Gay Harden).
“Poor Michaela and I have discovered how deeply similar the ladies are to ourselves. And that’s really disturbing–we’re in deep therapy about that one. At least we have each other,” said Harden. “Opposite sides of the spectrum, but we have each other!”
‘Trophy Wife’ airs Tuesdays at 9:30/8:30c on ABC
