Another day, another episode of “The Daily Show” where Trevor Noah takes a shot at former president Donald Trump. On Thursday night’s episode, the late night host had a good laugh about reports that Trump asked the valet who brought him Diet Coke how he could remain in office after the 2020 election.
The reporting comes from New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman’s upcoming book, “Confidence Man.” According to Haberman, Trump told nearly every aide he came in contact with (including the soda valet) that he would refuse to leave office, even consulting them on strategies for overturning the election.
“Oh man, that is so much pressure to put on your soda guy. Like, he asked the valet who brings him Diet Coke?” Noah said. “He was just like, ‘Soda boy, I need you to make me the emperor of America. How do I do it?’”
However, Noah contended it’s “less weird” to seek advice from the soda valet than it is to even have an employee with that job description.
“But, I mean, once you’ve got him you might as well get his input, right? Just be like, ‘Yeah, what do you think about how to overtake a country?’” he continued.
Haberman’s book also reveals that Trump insisted, if all else failed, he would simply “never leave” the White House. Noah ended the segment by wishing that Trump had followed through with that plan.
“The real travesty to me is that Trump didn’t follow through with his plan of just not leaving,” he said. “That would have been exciting. I would have loved to have seen the FBI chasing Trump around the White House like an episode of ‘Scooby-Doo.’”
