On Wednesday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah took a few minutes to talk about West Virginia businessman Don Blankenship and his big loss in the state’s GOP primary election the night before. And Noah was impressed by the way Mitch McConnell celebrated Blankenship’s loss.
Last week, Blankenship made national headlines for a campaign ad in which he called McConnell, the leader of his own party in the U.S. Senate, “Cocaine Mitch.” (It’s a long story, but in a nutshell, packages of cocaine were reportedly found on a ship owned by McConnell’s father-in-law in 2014. The father-in-law was not implicated.)
But after Blankenship lost on Tuesday, McConnell — or his social media team — mocked him by tweeting out a meme inspired by the Netflix series “Narcos” that had even the show’s official Twitter account nodding in approval.
“Cocaine Mitch?” asked Noah, after playing a clip from Blankenship’s ad. “There’s no way that Mitch McConnell is on cocaine. I mean, it is fun to imagine that he is, like he’s actually only 35 years old but he parties so hard that he just looks like that now.”
Shortly after, Noah showed the tweet McConnell sent out to clown Blankenship. “Wow. Mitch McConnell making jokes. That’s amazing.”
“It is a bit weird that McConnell is so confident about it that he made himself Pablo Escobar,” Noah continued. “Like part of me thinks that maybe he is involved with cocaine now. Now that it’s over, he’s like ‘Okay, now that the heat’s off we gotta get back out on the corners, yo. And push that blow, remember to price it at $58.94 so it doesn’t look suspicious.’”
Watch the whole thing above.
