Amazon knows what it has in “Transparent”: Already a twice Golden Globe-winning comedy, and now possibly the best piece of marketing material to sell its Prime membership on.
Ignoring the short-term implications and focusing on the longer-term opportunity, the online retailer is making all 10 episodes of “Transparent” free for 24 hours starting on Saturday — so cancel any weekend plans.
The company is also offering Amazon Prime for $72, it tweeted out on Thursday morning.
“Transparent” stars Jeffrey Tambor, Gabby Hoffman, Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass, Melora Harin and Judith Light, among others.
In its first run, the online show took home the Golden Globes trophy for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical, while Tambor won Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical.
