Tracy Morgan is set to sit down with Matt Lauer for his first television interview since the June 2014 car crash that left him critically injured.
The live in-studio conversation will air Monday, June 1 on NBC’s “Today” show, when Morgan will be joined by his lawyer Benedict Morelli.
Morelli appeared on “Today” Thursday, speaking about the prior day’s settlement involving Walmart, the mega-retailer whose semi-truck rear-ended a limo bus carrying Morgan and other comedians.
The New Jersey Turnpike accident left James McNair dead and the others badly injured.
The reported Walmart settlement came with a price tag of $10 million. McNair’s children, 26-year-old Jamel and 19-year-old Denita, will put aside part of the settlement for increasing monthly payments, which will start at $3,000 and continue for the rest of their lives.
Morgan still has a separate lawsuit against Walmart. The driver of the truck, Kevin Roper, has repeatedly attempted to delay that action, arguing that details emerging from the case could adversely affect him in a criminal proceeding that he’s facing.
Morelli told Lauer on Thursday that Morgan was “very emotional” after the prior day’s settlement was disclosed. The attorney commended Walmart for doing right by his clients.
