The world premiere of Disney’ "Toy Story 3" will kick off the Taormina Film Festival, screening June 12 in the ancient Greek Theatre, organizers confirmed to TheWrap.
The screening, a day before the animated film premieres in the U.S., is the first outdoor premiere for a major 3D film.
The film festival, held in the Teatro Antico of Taormina, one of Sicily’s most important and well-preserved monuments, runs June 12-18.
A showcase for film premières from Hollywood and around the world, the festival will present 21 new features.
On June 13, Robert De Niro will hold a Master Class for festival-goers and, later that night, receive the prestigious Taormina Arte Award on the stage of the 2,300-year-old Teatro Antico.
A new honor, the Fondazione Roma Mediterraneo Award for Dialogue Between Cultures, will be presented on the festival’s closing night to director Emir Kusturica. He also will hold a master class during the festival as well as screening two of his early films, "The Brides Are Coming" and "Bar Titanic."
Spain is the country chosen as this year’s guest of honor.
