Toronto: Evan Rachel Wood on Playing Ellen Page’s Sister in Nearly Every Scene of ‘Into the Forest’ (Video)

Director Patricia Rozema also tells TheWrap’s Steve Pond that hopes her female-led drama helps “to rebalance ever so slightly the history of cinema”

The biggest challenge of playing Ellen Page‘s sister in the new drama “Into the Forest,” Evan Rachel Wood said was nailing “the little sister moments that you can’t fake.”

In director Patricia Rozema’s indie drama, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, Page and Wood play siblings who live in a remote forest as they struggle to survive the collapse of society.

An additional challenge for the actresses: carrying an entire film since by themselves. “We’re in almost every frame of it,” Wood said.

“It isn’t that easy always to have female-lead stories,” Rozema told The Wrap’s Steve Pond. “I’m kind of committed to that, to try to rebalance ever so slightly the history of cinema to give women some agency and not just be sidekicks or rewards for the guys.”
