2016 was a rough year for everyone except Beyonce as it turns out.
According to data released by Google on Wednesday, Beyonce was the most-searched music artist of the year. She beat out Kesha, Kanye West, and Guns n Roses to claim the top spot in the category.
On the film side, the divisive DC movie “Suicide Squad” was the most searched, ahead of “Batman v Superman,” “Doctor Strange,” and “Finding Dory.” The all-female reboot of “Ghostbusters” came in at number nine in the top 10.
For TV, Netflix reigned supreme, taking four of the top 10 spots in the category thanks to “Stranger Things,” “Making a Murderer,” “Fuller House,” and “Luke Cage.” The first three shows were also the top three most-searched, with “Cage” coming in at number 7. HBO claimed two spots with “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld.” FX also got two with “People v OJ Simpson” and “American Horror Story.”
And of course, a number of beloved celebrities were lost this year, and people turned to Google to look up more information.
Prince topped the list, with his April overdose death shocking the world, and also came in No. 2 in top searches, overall. Right behind him on the list of those we lost was iconic singer-songwriter David Bowie. Others in the top 10 include Alan Rickman, Muhammad Ali, and Gene Wilder.
Donald Trump was the most searched person (not including deaths) followed by his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton. Hit mobile game “Pokemon Go” also made a splash in several categories: It was the fourth-most searched term, overall, and was top term for those searching “What is” and “How to”
