Lionsgate has dated “Chaos Walking,” starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, for wide U.S. release on March 1, 2019.
Doug Liman (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) is directing the sci-fi/adventure film, based on the best-selling YA novel from Patrick Ness.
“Chaos Waking” is a dystopian trilogy about a world where all thoughts are visible in a stream of projected sounds and images called “The Noise.” It features a male and female protagonist as leads, bracing for a planetary war.
Holland recently swung into theaters with “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which opened to $117 million last weekend. He will next reprise his role in “Avengers: Infinity War,” and will also next star in “The Current War” and “Uncharted.” He is represented by WME and Viewpoint.
Ridley recently starred in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and will next be seen in “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Peter Rabbit” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” She is represented by CAA and 42West.
Lionsgate made its name in the YA franchise space with the juggernaut “Twilight Saga” and later on “The Hunger Games,” though diminishing returns cropped up on that final Jennifer Lawrence film.
