No deal is in place, and the part is extremely small. The "Spider-Man" actor would play a writer who interviews an adult Pi. Shooting Maguire would take no more than a few days.
The movie is based on Yann Martel's bestselling novel about Pi Patel, a zookeeper's son. Patel and his family decide to move from India to Canada, but are shipwrecked on the way. Pi ends up adrift on the ocean in a lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger.
Suraj Sharma plays Pi. "Slumdog Millionaire" star Irrfan Khan plays the adult Pi.
Netter and David Womark are producing the Fox 2000 movie for a Dec. 14, 2012 release.
