MTV Documentary Films has acquired worldwide rights to the acclaimed documentary “Predators” after the film’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The film, from director David Osit, examines the complicated legacy of the Dateline series “To Catch a Predator,” specifically prodding the ethical dilemma at the center of the show and chronicling its downfall.
MTV Documentary Films will release the film theatrically this fall and mount an aggressive awards campaign before its launch on Paramount+ with Showtime. The collaboration comes after the successful partnership between MTV Documentary Films and Sweet Relief Productions following the critically-acclaimed “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” Paramount Global Content Distribution will be distributing “Predators” outside the U.S.
“I’m thrilled to work with MTV Documentary Films and am humbled to have ‘Predators’ included in their excellent slate of award-winning, incisive and thoughtful nonfiction programming. I’m so glad that MTV Documentary Films is also committed to a theatrical release for this film, as I created ‘Predators’ with the intent of imparting an unexpectedly moving and shocking cinematic experience to audiences. I’m beyond excited that we’ll be able to share this film around the world,” said David Osit.
“’Predators’ completely blew us away – chilling, riveting and stunningly revealing. David, Jamie and Kellen have done a masterful job exposing the underbelly and ethical complexities around one of the most watched news shows on television,” said Nina L. Diaz and Liza Burnett Fefferman, Co-Heads, MTV Documentary Films.
Cinetic Media negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with Lance McPherson on behalf of MTV Documentary Films.
